It was a beautiful sunny Saturday in the fall of 2008. In my adult Chinese

class, right after I had finished answering questions, one of the students

loudly said: “You should write a textbook for us!” This statement was

immediately supported by others: “Yes! You should!” I was shocked, stood

there looking at them, and didn’t know what to say. After a while I managed

to tell them, “Thank you for trusting me! But I don’t think I can do it. I’m not

a professor!”
