About the Authors
Dirk Mateer is the Gerald J. Swanson Chair in Economic Education at
the University of Arizona. His research has appeared in the Journal of Economic
Education as well as other journals and focuses on media-enriched learning.
He is the author
of Economics in the Movies (2005) and is an award-winning
instructor. He has been featured in the “Great Teachers in Economics” series
and he was also the inaugural winner of the Economic Communicator Contest
sponsored by the Association of Private Enterprise Education. While he
was at Penn State, he received the George W. Atherton Award, the university’s
highest teaching award, and was voted the best overall teacher in the Smeal
College of Business by the readers of Critique Magazine. Now at Arizona, he
received the best large class lecture award in the Eller College of Management.
Lee Coppock is Associate Professor in the Economics Department at
the University of Virginia. He has been teaching principles of economics
for over twenty years, specializing in principles of macroeconomics. Before
moving to UVA, he spent 9 years at Hillsdale College, where he learned how
to reach college students. At UVA, Lee teaches two large sections (500+) of
macro principles each spring. He has received teaching awards at both Hillsdale
College and UVA. Lee lives in Charlottesville with his wife
